Hungarian President Viktor Orban said on Friday that sanctions on Russian oil would be an "atomic bomb" on the Hungarian economy. He explained that overhauling the country's energy system would take five years and require significant funds.
Orban told Hungarian Kossuth Radio that the conflict in Ukraine "is not our war" and repeated that the oil embargo is a "red line" for his government. He also voiced his opposition to the sanctioning of religious figures amid reports the European Union is going to add Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, to its list of sanctioned individuals.
