Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip killed at least 232 people early Tuesday, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza. The bombing hit multiple areas in Israel's most intense assault since a January ceasefire.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the strikes after ceasefire talks failed to make progress.

The truce's first phase expired early in March, with Hamas seeking to renegotiate the initial terms to include a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, while Israel pushed to extend the ceasefire.
