Pentagon acknowledges documents leak poses 'serious' risk

Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, Chris Meagher, acknowledged Monday that the apparent leak of secret US documents poses a "serious" risk to the country.

The more than 100 documents that were leaked on social media last week pose "a very serious risk to national security and have the potential to spread disinformation," he said.

Meagher told reporters that United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was first informed of the leaked classified documents on April 6. By the next day, he began convening senior leaders "on a daily basis." In addition, the Pentagon is still working to establish the scale and scope of the issue, he said.
