Powell: Strong jobs reports could lead to more hikes

United States Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on Tuesday that the central bank could be forced to tighten monetary policy "more than is priced in" if it continues to receive strong labor market and high inflation reports.

Nevertheless, the Fed expects "significant progress" on the inflation issue this year, he said in an interview at The Economic Club of Washington DC.

Powell reiterated that the Fed will continue to "react to data" and that there is a "significant road ahead" when it comes to restoring price stability.
