United States Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday, speaking at a panel at the ECB Forum for Central Banking, that he wouldn't take hiking interest rates at consecutive meetings "off the table."
Nonetheless, Powell noted that the central bank hasn't made any decisions yet when it comes to the upcoming meetings and the future monetary policy path. "The only thing we decided was not to raise rates in June," he stressed.
Looking at the data from the latest quarter, with "stronger than expected growth, tighter than expected labor market and higher than expected inflation," the Fed policymaker stated that it is evident the policy "hasn't been restrictive for very long," repeating that future rate hikes should be expected.
