In an interview with Fox Business aired on Wednesday, United States President Donald Trump condemned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for supporting the Syrian government.

President Trump spoke out against the “brutality” of the Syrian civil war, which began more than six years ago, claiming Syrian President Bashar al-Assad uses chemical weapons against his own people. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” he commented.

Trump went on to criticize the Russian president for endorsing the Assad regime, stating that “Putin is backing a truly evil person.” The Kremlin’s support for Assad, he continued, is “bad for Russia, mankind, this world.”

Meanwhile, President Putin said earlier today that the Idlib poison gas attack that provoked military action from the US last week could have been “orchestrated” in an effort to put additional pressure on the Syrian government by foreign powers. He called for an international investigation into the incident as well before further action was taken against Syrian authorities.
