Russian President Vladimir Putin argued on Tuesday it is "absurd" for Moscow to allow the inspection of its nuclear facilities by western countries amidst the crisis in Ukraine.
Putin explained that it would be "total nonsense" for Russia to accept nuclear inspections agreed upon under the New START at the time NATO's forces are supporting the Kiev regime in its fight against Russian troops.
Russia has therefore suspended participation in the strategic arms treaty, Putin concluded, adding that Moscow will advocate for the start of new negotiations. However, Putin warned Russia will start carrying out tests of nuclear weapons if the United States chooses to do so.
