Report: China ready to make 'real offers' to US

EPA-EFE / WU HONG

The Chinese delegation coming to Washington for the next round of trade talks with the United States is coming armed with "real offers," the Financial Times reported on Wednesday citing sources familiar with the plans.

Officials from Beijing will also offer to ramp up purchases of US agricultural products by $10 billion a year, the sources said. A subsequent version of the report said the proposal is to increase annual purchases by 10 million tonnes instead of dollars.

"[Chinese lead negotiator and Vice Premier] Liu He is coming with real offers, it’s not an empty visit," one of these sources stated, adding that China is ready to defuse tensions.

The report contradicts earlier suspicions that the Chinese side might cut its visit short as it lowered expectations of reaching a deal.
