US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov agreed on Tuesday to lay the groundwork for future investment cooperation, the US Department of State said in a statement after the Riyadh talks.

According to the statement, both sides pledged to lay the groundwork for cooperation on geopolitical and economic matters that could emerge from a resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

They also agreed to establish a consultation mechanism to address diplomatic tensions and normalize embassy operations. High-level teams will be appointed to work toward ending the war sustainably and acceptably for all sides. "President Trump wants to stop the killing; the United States wants peace and is using its strength in the world to bring countries together," the statement said.
