Russia has been removed from the Council of Europe due to its military operations in Ukraine, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio confirmed on Friday.

The Council of Europe is an international organization established after World War II with the goal to secure human rights, democracy and the rule of law across the continent.

Meanwhile, the European Union member states continued discussions about also excluding Russia from the SWIFT international payment system.
