Russia, Iran close to 'big' bilateral deal

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov (pictured right) and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian (left) spoke "at the initiative of the Iranian side," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. The ministry added that the two diplomats agreed to accelerate efforts to approve a new "big interstate agreement" without providing further details.

Lavrov and Amir-Abdollahian also discussed the situation in Gaza and expressed concern at the "ongoing escalation and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation." They agreed on the need to mobilize the United Nations to seek an immediate ceasefire and provide urgent assistance to the civilian population.
