United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres (pictured) underscored on Saturday it is essential to bring Russian food and fertilizer to the global markets "which are not subject to sanctions," urging all governments and commercial sectors to "cooperate."

"Without fertilizer in 2022, there may not be enough food in 2023," warned the UN secretary-general during the press conference in Istanbul. To further stabilize the commodities markets and bring down consumer costs, it is imperative to export more food and fertilizer from Ukraine and Russia, Guterres explained.

During his visit to Istanbul, the UN secretary-general inspected grain ships, including the "Brave Commander" which is bound for East Africa, bringing around 23,000 tonnes of grain to combat the famine in the region.
