The Seoul Western District Court issued a warrant to detain impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol over his short-lived imposition of martial law, Yonhap reported.
The warrant was issued over charges of masterminding the failed martial law declaration in early December, abuse of power and orchestrating the insurrection. The warrant gives the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO) 48 hours to take Yoon in for questioning and file for an arrest warrant.
The CIO chief stated that the president can't legally obstruct court-issued arrest and detention warrants though the Presidential Security Service has thus far blocked investigators from entering Yoon's residence and the presidential office compound.
