The South Korean military's stance is to wait for President Yoon Suk-yeol to lift the martial law currently declared in the country before leaving its positions in the streets, the national broadcaster KBS reported on Tuesday.

The news came after the nation's National Assembly passed legislation urging the end of the emergency state, with many lawmakers describing the president's move as unconstitutional.

Previously, Yoon declared martial law to "eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the free constitutional order" in the country.
