South Korea's Constitutional Court officially removed President Yoon Suk-yeol from office, upholding his impeachment over the December imposition of martial law.

The court said Yoon's decision to deploy military forces in 2024 went against democratic principles and aimed to interfere with the legislative process.

The ruling triggers a 60-day countdown for a new presidential election. In the meantime, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo resumes his role as acting president, following a previous court decision on March 24.
