United States Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer underlined on Wednesday that next House Speaker must remember that "bipartisanship" is crucial in keeping the government running, urging the next candidate to avoid the mistakes committed by their predecessors.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Schumer pointed out that the government is in a "dangerous situation" following the removal of now-outgoing House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, with the funding bill set to run out in 40 days. "Until Republicans stop their infighting, the House can vote on no bills, no appropriations can get done," Schumer stressed.
"Whoever the House elects as the next Speaker will not be able to ignore the realities of the Biden government," he added.
