Senate confirms Kristi Noem as homeland security secretary

The United States Senate confirmed Kristi Noem (pictured) as Homeland Security secretary on Saturday.

The bipartisan vote was 59-34, with no Republican opposition. Noem, South Dakota's governor since 2019, will now lead the Department of Homeland Security, overseeing agencies like Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, FEMA and the Secret Service.

Her appointment follows the confirmations of Marco Rubio as secretary of state and Pete Hegseth as secretary of defense.
