Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Thursday that Spain is studying the possibility of sending more Leopard 2A4 battle tanks to Ukraine. At the same time, he will support Ukraine's efforts to join the EU when, in the second half of 2023, Spain holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
At a press conference with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Sanchez announced that, at the moment, there is a contingent of Ukrainian soldiers in Spain receiving training to learn how to operate the battle tanks. He also stressed that this is only the beginning and that other financing and arms aid forms to Kiev are being studied.
In addition, the Spanish prime minister stressed that his country will not recognize Russia's false annexation of Ukrainian territories, as this is a "flagrant violation" of international treaties.
