Spanish inflation up from 1.5% to 1.8% in October

EPA-EFE/JAVIER LIZON

Spain's annual inflation stood at 1.8% in October, the country's National Statistics Office (INE) said in its preliminary report on Wednesday. The figure jumped from September's figure of 1.5% and came in above analysts' expectations.

The rise in annual inflation was primarily driven by an uptick in fuel costs, while gas and electricity prices also contributed, albeit to a somewhat lesser degree.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices added 0.6%. The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices climbed by 1.8% year-over-year and increased by 0.4% compared to September.
