British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed the importance of a "strong UK-China relationship" at his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit on Monday. He added that the upcoming UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue between British Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will focus on investment projects and a "more level playing field to help our businesses.”
According to Downing Street, Starmer also spoke about China's human rights record and its sanctions against British politicians, the Mirror reported. Starmer is the first British prime minister to meet with Xi since Teresa May in 2018.
