United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said during the meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the war cabinet that Israel must move to a lower intensity phase of the war against Hamas in Gaza within weeks rather than months, Axios reported on Thursday, citing US and Israeli officials.
According to the report, Sullivan stressed the US is not calling on Israel to stop its fighting against Hamas but emphasized that the intensity of Israeli attacks must be reduced, and voiced concern about civilian casualties and the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza.
Additionally, Sullivan expressed the Biden administration's interest in accelerating talks on post-war Gaza, the sources told the media outlet. Meanwhile, the US National Security Council (NSC) Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said that the Palestinian Authority should take part in the governance of Gaza and other Palestinian territories.
