Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (pictured) expressed on Monday his hopes that the negotiations with Turkey over his country's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will resume soon.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Kristersson commented on his most recent conversation with his Finnish counterpart Sanna Marin, who said their countries should join NATO together. "But this does not change the fact that it is Turkey that makes Turkish decisions, and we have great respect for that," he noted.
Commenting on Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's statement that Ankara intends to resume the tripartite negotiations with Sweden and Finland, Kristersson said such news was welcome but added the date for a new meeting and the resumption of the talks has not been set yet.
