Canadian TC Energy Corporation announced on Thursday that it has shut down the Keystone Pipeline System mobilizing personnel and equipment "in response to a confirmed release of oil into a creek" in Nebraska, United States.
"The affected segment has been isolated, and booms deployed to control downstream migration of the release. The system remains shutdown as our crews actively respond and work to contain and recover the oil," the company wrote in a statement.
The pipeline is an important part of the Canadian oil export chain and transfers the crude from Alberta, Canada, to refineries in Illinois, Oklahoma and the US Gulf Coast.
