Tesla Inc.'s factory in Gruenheide near Berlin was evacuated on Tuesday morning following a major power outage, the company's spokesperson told German news agency DPA.
According to reports by the German media, it appears that Tesla's manufacturing plant was paralyzed to work, while the entire area was left without electricity in what appeared to be an arson attack in the factory's vicinity. Namely, bomb disposal teams were also dispatched to the scene. However, the police did not yet provide information on what caused the fire.
The incident comes amid days-long protests, which started on February 28 under the initiative "Stop Tesla" by environmental activists, in opposition to Tesla's gigafactory expansion plans. The American carmaker's stock was down 1.80% during premarket hours following the news.
