Sides interested in buying TikTok are in communication with the administration of United States President Donald Trump and not the app's parent company ByteDance, Axios' Dan Primack reported on Friday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
However, the report stressed that it is still unclear if China would "sign off on any deal" reached through such channels.
Earlier, Trump delayed the ban on the Chinese app in the US, but conditioned the ByteDance to divest at least half of TikTok to an American entity. He also stated he would be "open" to billionaire and his ally Elon Musk acquiring TikTok if he was interested.
