United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Wednesday that the country's President Donald Trump is "committed to the Middle East peace process," AFP reported. The remark comes after the president stated yesterday that he has decided to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital by moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Earlier today, Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah stated that Trump's decision could "destroy the peace process and the two-state solution.” On Tuesday, the European Union Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Mogherini warned the United States against the move, calling Washington to respect the "meaningful peace process" between Israel and Palestine.
The US decision for the embassy's relocation was repeatedly postponed by previous administrations due to the severity of implications of such a move since it could be regarded as a provocation.
