The total market capitalization of the cryptocurrency sector surpassed the $2 trillion mark on Wednesday, spearheaded by Bitcoin, which itself surpassed $1 trillion in market capitalization for the first time since late 2021.
The digital currency also eclipsed the $51,000 level, a price not seen since December 2021. Moreover, the milestone comes amid a continuous rally that began in January of the previous year, with Bitcoin's value increasing by 22% since the start of 2024 and an impressive 132% over the last 12 months.
At 6:47 am ET, Bitcoin surged 3.27%, selling for $51,356, while Ethereum rose 4.08% to go for $2,749 simultaneously.
