Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that the US tariffs would be paused for at least 30 days. The statement on social media followed his meeting with President Donald Trump.
"I just had a good call with President Trump," Trudeau said, adding that Canada will implement a $1.3 billion plan to secure the border with new personnel and technology. Besides, the plan includes enhancing the "coordination with" the US and increasing "resources" to block the flow of fentanyl. "Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border," he said.
Canada will also appoint a Fentanyl Czar, classify cartels as terrorist organizations, and launch a joint strike force with the US to tackle organized crime and money laundering.
