United States President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) will invest at least $100 billion in the US over the next short period of time, confirming previous reports. The investment aims to "build state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facilities," which will be based mostly in Arizona.
"The most powerful AI chips in the world will be made right here in America, and it'll be a big percentage of chips made by this company, but as you know there are based mostly in Taiwan, and they're by far away the biggest, there's nobody even close," Trump said.
Trump also stated that the investment will be dedicated to building five "cutting edge fabrication facilities" in Arizona, that will create "many thousands of jobs, high-paying jobs."
