United States President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), a source told Politico on Thursday.
The potential selection follows Trump's comments during his presidential campaign, in which he expressed interest in having Kennedy "work on health" in his administration, vowing to let Kennedy "go wild" on his Make America Healthy Again agenda. Kennedy, known for his outspoken views on public health, has also criticized the quality of food in the US, describing it as "poison."
The former independent presidential candidate previously remarked that "entire departments" within the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) "have to go," criticizing them for "not doing their job" and "not protecting" American children. The FDA operates under the oversight of the Department of Health and Human Services which Kennedy could have complete control of if given the nomination by Trump.
