Trump hikes China tariffs to 125%

United States President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday an immediate increase in tariffs on Chinese goods to 125%.

In a social media post, the president quoted Beijing's "lack of respect" for global markets. The decision takes effect immediately, marking a sharp escalation in trade tensions between the two economic powers.

Trump justified the hike by claiming that China has long "ripped off" the United States and that the new rate would help restore balance.
