United States President Donald Trump said that he doesn't think "people should be going back" to Gaza, which he called a "demolition site" and suggested that Gazans would be "thrilled" to live elsewhere.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump called for a "beautiful area" where Gazans can "resettle permanently." He stressed that Gaza is "not a place for people to be living" adding that he believes that if Palestinians "had an alternative, they would much rather not go back to Gaza and live in a beautiful alternative that's safe." When asked about the number of people that would be resettled, Trump said, "all of them."
Egypt and Jordan, as well as other Arab countries, have already rejected the idea. However, Trump said that "it doesn't have to be Jordan and Egypt," adding that there have been "many countries that have reached out." He added that even though it "doesn't have to be Jordan and Egypt," he believes that it would be "also them."
