Trump may give 'a lot of countries' breaks on tariffs

US President Trump suggested on Monday he'll carve out several exemptions from next week's reciprocal tariff announcement. He also pointed out that additional tariffs were coming "over the next few days," including additional levies on autos, lumber, and chips.

"I may give a lot of countries breaks, but it's reciprocal, but we might be even nicer than that. You know we've been very nice to a lot of countries for a long time. But I call it Liberation Day. April 2nd is liberation day," Trump added.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the head of the White House would exclude a set of sector-specific tariffs while applying reciprocal levies on April 2 on a targeted set of nations that account for the bulk of foreign trade with the US. Nonetheless, Trump mentioned that not all tariffs will be included on April 2.
