Trump on Syria: Mission accomplished

United States President Donald Trump described the mission targeting Syria on Saturday as "accomplished" as he tweeted praise to the US, UK and French militaries for the action that saw 110 missiles fired at Syrian government targets in retaliation for an alleged chemical attack in Douma.

Trump tweeted: "A perfectly executed strike last night. Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished! So proud of our great Military which will soon be, after the spending of billions of fully approved dollars, the finest that our Country has ever had. There won’t be anything, or anyone, even close!"

The Syrian and Russian governments condemned the attacks, while Germany and the EU praised the operation.
