United States President-elect Donald Trump announced Scott Bessent, a hedge fund manager with over 35 years in the investment management business, as his nominee for Treasury secretary, confirming earlier reports.
In a statement, Trump praised Bessent as a leading international investor and economic strategist. He described Bessent's success as "emblematic of the American Dream" and emphasized his potential to help lead the US into a new economic era.
Born in Conway, South Carolina, Bessent graduated from Yale University, where he also taught economic history as an adjunct professor. He is an investor, known for his extensive career in finance, including serving as Chief Investment Officer for Soros Fund Management from 2011 to 2015. He previously also led Soros' London office during the 1990s British pound devaluation and he notably later established a hedge fund Key Square Group, where he serves as CEO.
