United States President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he picked Tulsi Gabbard to serve as director of National Intelligence.
"For over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans. As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties - She is now a proud Republican," Trump said in a statement. "Tulsi will make us all proud," he added.
Gabbard, who is an Army National Guard veteran, unsuccessfully ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, but she left the Democratic Party in October 2022. She officially joined the Republican Party in October 2024, although she endorsed Trump before that and actively participated in his presidential campaign.
