Former United States President Donald Trump exclaimed that he would "absolutely" block the sale of United States Steel Corporation (US Steel) to Japan's steelmaker Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC).
"I would block it instantaneously. Absolutely," Trump stated after his meeting with the president of the Teamsters Union, a labor union representing transportation workers. "We saved the steel industry. Now, U.S. Steel is being bought by Japan," he added. He went on to express that the deal is "terrible."
The American steelmaker announced the sale in December, disclosing that Nippon Steel will acquire the company for $14.9 billion.
