United States President Donald Trump said during a Fox News interview that he'd "rather not have to" impose tariffs on China.

"We have one very big power over China and that's tariffs," Trump said. "And they don't want them and I'd rather not have to use it, but it's a tremendous power over China," he stressed. "China gets a lot of its money from the US and uses that money to build the military," he said.

When asked by Sean Hannity whether he could "prevent Xi from his territorial desire to take Taiwan," Trump said: "No, I could do that, because we have something that they want. We're the pot of gold."
