United States President Donald Trump laid out his administration’s new strategy for “protecting America’s interests” in Afghanistan during his presidential address at Fort Myer, Virginia.
“We will not talk numbers. We will not let our enemy know when we will attack, how we will attack or how much we will attack, but attack we will,” Trump said. He said he would not reveal specifics, because the new strategy would be based on conditions, not timeline. Previously, a report surfaced which cited a senior government official as saying that an additional 4,000 troops are to be deployed in Afghanistan.
Outlining the South Asia strategy, Trump said: “Pakistan has sheltered the same organizations that try every single day to kill our people. That will have to change and that will change immediately.” “It’s time for Pakistan to demonstrate its commitment to civilization, order and peace.” Trump revealed that he intends to further develop the strategic partnership with India.
