United States President Donald Trump began his second term in office by signing multiple executive actions aimed at reversing Biden-era policies and implementing new directives.
The first was the rescission of 78 executive orders, presidential memoranda and related actions from former President Joe Biden's administration. He then enacted a regulatory freeze to halt new regulations until his administration fully controlled the government. Trump also issued a federal hiring freeze, excluding the military and other essential categories, and required federal employees to return to full-time, in-person work "immediately." Another directive instructed all government departments to address the cost-of-living crisis. Additional actions included restoring freedom of speech, ending government censorship and halting the weaponization of federal agencies against political adversaries.
Most notably, Trump announced the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, citing a projected savings of over $1 trillion. He also signed a formal letter to be sent to the United Nations, officially confirming the decision.
