United States President-elect Donald Trump announced that he plans to impose a 25% tariff on all goods from Mexico and Canada upon taking office, citing concerns over the inflow of illegal immigrants and drugs from the two countries.

"This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country," Trump wrote on Truth Social, arguing that both Mexico and Canada possess "the absolute right and power" to solve this issue. "We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price," Trump stressed.

In a post that followed, Trump said he would slap China with an additional 10% tariff, "above any additional Tariffs," on its goods coming into the US, due to the country's failure to deal with fentanyl smuggling.
