United States President Donald Trump stated on Monday that Washington will have direct discussions with Iran on the nuclear agreement.

"[The talks] will go on Saturday at almost the highest level. We have a very big meeting. We'll see what can happen. I think everybody agrees, doing a deal would be preferable to doing the obvious. And the obvious is not something I want to be involved with ... So we will see if we can avoid it," Trump said while answering journalist questions in the Oval Office, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by his side.

He said that the situation is "getting to a dangerous territory." The US president expressed hope that the negotiations would be successful and stressed that "it would be in [Tehran's] best interest" for this to go smoothly.
