United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that he agreed with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba that their countries should cooperate in order to "combat China's economic aggression."

Trump also noted that the US needs to tackle its trade deficit with Japan, stressing it could be done just through oil and gas deals. He stated that Tokyo agreed to buy US liquefied natural gas in "record numbers" and added the two countries also discussed a joint venture "of some type" related to oil and gas in Alaska.

Reflecting on the situation regarding US Steel, Trump said Nissan, likely making a mistake and referring to Nippon Steel, will not seek to buy the American company but rather "invest heavily" in the firm.
