Tsai says Taiwan will not bow to external pressures

Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen told reporters on Wednesday before leaving for the United States that Taipei will not be discouraged from pursuing its goals in the face of external pressure, particularly from China.

She went on to note that Taiwan is "not alone," despite Beijing's opposition to the region's efforts to expand international engagement.

Her comments come after China threatened to respond if Tsai were to meet with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy while in Washington.
