TSMC Senior Vice President Kevin Zhang revealed on Tuesday that the negotiations over a possible setup of a new €10 billion chip plant in Germany are ongoing and that a decision would be announced in August at the earliest.
"I don't want to get into the politics side of the thing, but I do think that there is a need for us to provide our customers with a diverse supply," Zhang told reporters, arguing that Europe is a "very significant geography given the customer base."
Zhang's confirmation comes after a report from earlier this month suggested the Taiwanese semiconductor giant was looking to build a new facility in Germany in collaboration with the government and three other companies - NXP Semiconductors, Robert Bosch, and Infineon Technologies.
