Twitter Inc. staff knew that the company's decision to censor a media story about the overseas business dealings of Hunter Biden (pictured left) was wrong, but no one at the company had the courage to reverse the ruling, according to "The Twitter Files," reports posted on Twitter by journalist Matt Taibbi. The author cited and posted screenshots of messages exchanged between Twitter employees and outside parties at the time.
The correspondence showed that then-US President Trump's campaign was outraged by the suppression of the story that could have influenced the outcome of the November 2020 election. In addition, teams across the company were seemingly in conflict about which team was directly responsible for content moderation and what aspect of company policy could justify the ban.
The existence of the laptop that was the basis for the story was ultimately confirmed to be true even by the left-leaning media.
