The annual inflation in the United Kingdom clocked in at 2% in June, unchanged from May, the Office for National Statistics announced in its report on Wednesday. Month on month, consumer prices edged up 0.1%. In May, monthly consumer inflation was at 0.3%.
The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) grew 2.8% in the reported month, year over year, while the reading saw a 0.2% increase compared to May. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) excluding food, energy, alcohol and tobacco jumped 3.5% on an annual level, the same as in May, and rose 0.2% an a monthly basis.
"The largest upward contribution to the monthly change in both CPIH and CPI annual rates came from restaurants and hotels, where prices of hotels rose more than a year ago; the largest downward contribution came from clothing and footwear," it was detailed in the report.
