The United Kingdom is aiming to provide tanks to Kiev, a Downing Street spokesperson confirmed to the journalists on Wednesday. "We are accelerating our support to Ukraine with the kind of next-generation military technology that will help win this war," the spokesperson said.
A dozen Challenger II tanks are likely to be dispatched which would be "game-changing" according to the spokesperson, who added that "the prime minister, [Rishi Sunak], has asked the defense secretary, [Ben Wallace], to work with partners in the coming weeks to discuss how we can go even further and faster on our support to Ukraine, including the provision of tanks."
The news follows earlier reports that the UK was considering sending tanks and after Wednesday's news that Poland would send Leopard tanks to Ukraine in an effort to help with the war against Russia.
