The Metropolitan Police issued the first fines to members of the United Kingdom government for breaking COVID-19 rules by attending a party during a lockdown, Sky News reported on Friday.
According to the report, several officials were sent £50 fines via email for reportedly attending a party in the Cabinet Office building at 70 Whitehall.
Earlier, the Metropolitan Police announced it will start issuing fines to officials for breaches of COVID-19 regulations after reports emerged that members of the government attended and hosted a number of parties during the lockdown, including several events at Prime Minister Boris Johnson's residence at 10 Downing Street.
