Retail sales volumes across the United Kingdom expanded by 1.9% in January compared to the previous month, according to a report published by the National Statistics Office on Friday, surpassing market estimates. The sales volumes also rebounded above their pre-crisis levels.
Non-food stores sales volumes rose by 3.4%, while automotive fuel sales volumes rose by 4.1%. On the other hand, food store sales volumes dropped below February 2020 levels for the first time. The proportion of retail sales online also continued its downward path, slipping to 25.3%.
On an annual basis, retail sales volumes soared by 9.1%.
